FIRST LADY DENYSE HAYNES TURNER

Denyse Haynes-Turner is a native of Baltimore, Maryland.  She is married to Dr. Gregory C. Turner, Pastor of the Christ Temple Baptist Church.  To this marriage, God blessed Dr. and Mrs. Turner with two lovely children, daughter, Shaunda Carlise and son Sean Darnell-Carlton, daughter-in-law, Judia Nicole, granddaughter, Dominique Sharae Teree and grandson, Sean Jordan-Carlton.

Denyse is an honors graduate of the Western High School in Baltimore, Maryland.  In seeking to fulfill a mission, Denyse continued to matriculate through various institutions of higher learning, including Morgan State University, Community College of Baltimore, The National Theological Seminary and College, the Rochester Institute of Technology, and the St. Regis University.  She is currently a Certified Christian Family Counselor and a Health Administrator and holds the following: Certificate, Religious Studies in Christian Education, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Master of Science in Health Care Administration, Certificate, Christian Family Counseling, and Master of Science in Public Health

Denyse believes in a holistic approach to serving mankind.  This has led to a deep commitment to the community in addition to her professional life.   She was formerly the Director of Paterson Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, a maternal/child health education and outreach organization dedicated to decreasing infant mortality in the city of Paterson. 

Professional memberships have included the Northern NJ Maternal/Child Health Consortium’s (NNJMCHC) Regional Education Committee, NNJMCHC Fetal Infant Mortality Reduction Case Review and Community Action Teams, NJ Association of Infant Mental Health, NJ Child Health Month Planning Committee, AmeriGroup Health Advisory Committee, Greater Paterson Community Partnership Committee, Executive Board Member of Paterson Alliance, NJ Women and AIDS Network, American Cancer Society, Head Start Health and Nutrition Advisory Committee, National Head Start Association, and the National Black Child Development Institute. 

Community involvement includes a seat on the Paterson YWCA’s board of directors, having served seven years as President.  Former memberships include board member-at-large of the State YWCA, Paterson AM Rotary Club, Passaic County Chapter of National Council of Negro Women, National Association of Female Executives, State Assembly Finance Committee and the American Woman’s Economic Development Corporation, Passaic County Women’s Advisory Council, and the Mayor’s Task Force on Crime and Drugs.

Denyse has also spent approximately five years in the political arena as Paterson’s first black female Democratic Municipal Leader.  She has received numerous awards for church and civic activities.  As the Leading Lady of the Christ Temple Baptist Church, Denyse participates in ministers’ wives activities throughout the country.  She is currently the President of the Shiloh Association Women’s Auxiliary.  An experienced grant writer, Denyse developed a Computer Lab and Nursery for Christ Temple.  Having served as a Pastor’s wife for 28 years, she is praying about responding to the call to provide inspirational leadership to pastors’ wives in the form of a book.

Her current love is travel and she has developed her own travel agency.  This will take her into her gentle years.  To God be the glory!
